    Hi Steve,
People rarely write in the forum indeed. I’d suggest you post a message on the CCC Facebook pages, it is much livelier there.

I don’t know the model year of your car, but I think CX Relfex has a Douvrin engine (shared with Renault), so it is different than mine. You will find the details of electric wiring etc in the Haynes manual for Citroen CX 20 & 22 which covers your model. I reckon you can find it easily on ebay.

    Cheers,
    Dino

    Hello,

Thank you both for nice words. Ed, I tried to write a sensible text about the CX, I hope the readers will find it interesting.

Automatic gearbox in CX is so well combined with the engine, so smooth yet powerful enough.

Well, I took a risk – and bought it, I’ve had it for 3 weeks now.

So far, I am very pleased with it. I wanted this exact model, the year, the gearbox, everything just matched, so I didn’t think too much. I’ve been driving it almost every day since I bought it, I don’t need a car actually, so I just drive it after work around my neighbourhood.

The car came with service history since 1995. It had a total of 12 owners (quite a lot), but it stayed 22 years with the 10th, 1997-2019. Some things are getting a bit tired (accumulator spheres, exhaust, unstable idle, to name a few), but the most important for me is that it starts and runs, and there is no visible rust.

I plan to change the coolant, oil, filters, the gearbox oil and then see how it behaves, possibly take it to a garage for a more detailed inspection. I am based in central London, so it is a bit problematic to find a good Citroen garage around here.

This nice example appeared on the car & classic: https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1663494

Does anyone know anything about it? I see it was written off and subsequently restored. It had 6 MOTs since, so I suppose there shouldn’t be any legal problems with it being written off at some point.

    Hi Jamie

I haven’t checked the forum for a while and missed your post, but thanks for your post. I think I know which CX it was – light blue C-Matic somewhere in East London? Anyway, I remember finding a CX 2400 C-Matic on sale around that time (on carandclassic website) and I was seriously considering of buying it… but decided not to in the end. I want an automatic and I am not in a hurry.

    Hi Jamie,

It was interesting to read the progress of work on you CX 2400 Pallas.

Regarding the famous spherical ashtray, it was introduced in the model year 1979 and replaced by the conventional ashtray in MY 1981. So your dad’s car was probably one of the first CXs with that ashtray.
A lot of useful info I found on this page: http://generationcx.chez.com/lesgrandesdates.htm

    Cheers

I see now that the links to my youtube videos didn’t come right in the first post. Let’s see if I can do it again:

    Hi Jamie

Thank you for the welcoming words! It is nice to be here on the forum. I realised, because it is more private than Facebook, the forum is the right place for this kind of detailed talks.

Anyway, I was fearing that the statistics would be depressing. And to make things more frustrating, it seems I missed a CX 25 auto from 1985 (I guess a very late series 1 by the chrome outside, but there weren’t any photos of the dashboard) which was advertised on carandclassic.co.uk in August. I contacted the seller yesterday and he said it’s been sold.

I’ve been reading the Citroenian and watching the ads section carefully since I joined the club 2 years ago. I will reach out to George, thanks. If I remember correctly, at the end of the first lockdown, I saw an excellent dark green CX Pallas auto on carandclassic.co.uk being sold in Scotland. But the timing just wasn’t right for me. Hope it still lives somewhere.

Hopefully we’ll have more events and meet ups organised from now on, I’d like to get some connections with the Citroen world.

    Best wishes,
    Elvedin
