Hi All, thank you for the responses its much appreciated. I have always had condensation coming out of the end of the exhaust so was aware that was a possibility – it was the volume of water that surprised me and hence made me think that something had gone wrong – wondered whether with force feeding water through the radiator i may have blown a core plug or similar. I’m going to start it up again and take for a gentle run as it seems to be running nicely. i wonder if starting and stopping it during the coolant change may have left a large amount of water in the exhaust which needs to come out.
Yes they look to be pressed out on purpose to support the sill covers as you suggest, looking inside them I can see a green beige colour which I assume is the original colour of the chassis unless someone has waxed inside them. I’m assuming that spraying inside these with rust protection would also be a good idea?
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the links I managed to download them. I have a 1974 dsuper5. I do have a paper copy of the owners manual but it’s so poor quality that you can’t read it. I also managed to get my hands on some of the original Citroen workshop manuals but being honest every time I have tried to use them I have found it really difficult to understand as the layout and ordering just doesn’t make sense, also not sure that they are the correct ones either way.
I’ll go through what you sent and I’ll see what I can work out.
Hi Paul, apologies for the late response I managed to somehow lock myself out of my account and every time I tried to log in it wouldn’t let me or allow me to reset my password.
Either way thanks for the additional info it was very useful from a positioning perspective. When I did get under the car I did find the bungs you mentioned running across the back of the chassis. I found that if I removed the back seat I could use the seat belt mounting holes as well as the bolt holes for securing the cover for the petrol tank as a way to get into those box sections. I left the bungs in initially and when I did take them out it appeared that I had managed to get the product down to them.
I also used the front seat belt mounting points as a way to get into the chassis side rails- albeit I think you are limited as to how far you can get. I also removed some bolts from the front seats and used the holes to put product into the box section under the seats.
To try and get more into the length of the chassis rails I used some preexisting holes which seem to have been made by a previous owner but then also drilled some small holes at various points in line with these so I could get the lance in along the entire length. This seemed to work quite well and I had product running out of the holes so hoping that I got good coverage.
One thing I did notice, but wasn’t sure about when I took the sill covers off to expose the fuel lines was that at various points there were quite large holes which seem to have been made purposefully and I did wonder if these also allowed access into the structural part of the sills.
Thanks again it made the job easier and getting under the car identified a few other jobs that needed doing so have added to the list.
