  • Found it! I traced some of the return hoses from the bottom of the LHM reservoir and found one that wasn’t connected to anything. I reckon it was chopped in two by the radiator fan.
Thanks for all your help, Paul.

The issue is about the other end of the hose. I’ve currently got it going into a hole in the centrifugal regulator. It doesn’t look right being there. And, unsurprisingly, it’s leaking there.

Yes, you’re spot on. I can’t see any obvious way that the overflow return pipe can return to the LHM reservoir; no T, no sign of a disused hose to the reservoir.
I wonder if there’s another kind soul out there with a late BVH EFI model (mine’s 1973) who can shed light on this?
Thanks again, Paul. Once again you astound me with your brain power!!

Hi. Thanks for the info, Paul. I’ve had another look at the parts manual and the unit I’m talking about is described as the clutch control and it’s for a BVH IE model. Have I got that right that the French IE abbreviation is our EFI?
The rubber hose in question is 10mm diameter and only about 500mm in length, nowhere near long enough to go back to the LHM reservoir. I’m guessing it goes back to the centrifugal regulator, which you may be describing? I wasn’t being very clear. Still not, I fear!

Even though I’m now retired, other stuff seems to get in the way. No progress on the throttle cable, but I sussed the petrol leak. I’d replaced a lot of the petrol pipe around the injectors and lower down but had used a duff jubilee clip to one of the injectors. It was fairly straightforward to put a new one on. Small wins.

Thanks everyone. I’ve been slow to reply as I’ve been busy finishing the renovation of my garage so I can get the DS protected. I’m very grateful for all the info. I’ve got a petrol leak to fix first, then I’ll crack on with this. Thanks again.

Mystery - if somewhat boring - part

Sorry, Paul, I’ve not used this new(er) site for some time so didn’t know how to get a picture copied in.
It’s a really boring part, but, fingers-crossed, you can see it now.

I’m using a Samsung Galaxy tablet. Browser is Google 12.24. Don’t know if that’s relevant.

Just a thought. Why not delay a starter motor purchase? Remove your starter motor and check the carbon brushes. Mine had worn very low and I managed to replace just those.
