The photo Paul posted shows a less than ideal termination at the throttle body end. It is possible a cylinder termination would work nicely if it were the correct diameter and in the other axis, but finding someone to rebuild the original terminations is definitely preferred. The pedal end has an odd loop termination that you can see on page 153 of the scanned 648.

Failure of the cable in action isn’t something you’ll need. If you can extract it whole and get it to a rebuilder that is a much better plan than using something aftermarket and with the wrong terminations. If that is an expensive project, then I would prefer to pay the price for something that is right.

No experience of RHD EFI cars, but 648 does show the same DX 142-325 A part number for the LHD and RHD cables. The only difference in the replacement could be access to the lower end. That may be better or worse for RHD (if that was possible!).

For the time it takes I would be strongly tempted to lift out the engine/trans to get this job done. Sam did eventually manage to replace his cable without doing that, but having detailed photos of the setup at the bottom of the cable helps a lot.

Yes, this job is a breeze if the engine is out, but needs lots of patience/luck and articulate fingers when the engine is in the car.

The top end of the cable is easy for access under the removable part of the inlet manifold, but at the bottom you’ll have to release the lever from the end of the pedal spindle and also to release the anchor for the cable outer which is screwed to the support for the left engine mount.

If you could extract the cable before it breaks you could possibly send it to a specialist to get it repaired?

If it helps I have plenty of photos of the pedal lever and how the lower end of the cable is mounted. And quite by chance the engine is out of my car (yet again) at the moment if you needed anything different. In fact, depending on your location you would be welcome to come round and take a look (north Cambridgeshire) if that was helpful.

Not sure how to post photos on this forum, but I’m sure we can get round that problem.

Yes, re: the cam followers some of them were quite pitted so I had to get them sorted.

Thanks Peter I thought Newman were more about supply of performance camshafts than reconditioning. I’m quite close to Paul’s guy in Bedford so may well call them once I know how bad mine is.

I also noticed today that Citroen Classics have exchange camshafts back in stock so that’s another option.

Thanks Paul. Much appreciate the contact. I’m planning to measure lift first then depending on how that looks will call him. If he doesn’t he’ll probably have a recommendation.
